The VPN/Proxy Detector on 101IP identifies the connection type of any IP address: VPN, public proxy, TOR, datacenter, or regular residential ISP. Detection is performed using the ip-api database with proxy, hosting, and mobile flags.

Connection types

Proxy / VPN — IP belongs to a VPN provider (NordVPN, ExpressVPN etc.), public proxy, or TOR exit node;
Datacenter / Hosting — IP is leased from a cloud provider (AWS, Azure, Hetzner etc.) or hosting company;
Mobile carrier — IP is used in a mobile network (shared among many users, frequently changing);
Residential connection — regular IP from a home or corporate ISP.

When you need this check

Verify that your VPN is actually hiding your real IP;
Check a new client or user IP for anonymizer usage;
Determine whether traffic from an IP is datacenter bot traffic;
Analyze suspicious IPs found in web server logs.

Data is provided by ip-api.com. Accuracy of VPN/proxy detection depends on the database freshness; some newer VPN servers may not be flagged as proxies.
